British Computer Society, Jan. 2000 (Philip Daly): this book stands head and shoulders above the rest
There are many reference works on Linux, but this book stands head and shoulders above the rest. It has a readable style, pertinent chapters, helpful tips, notes and cautions and wonderful breadth of detail. [..] I really liked the sections on X user interfaces, which make configuring the desk-top a pleasure. Scripting in the Bourne shell is nicely handled too, but this really beats a lot of other works with a command reference that I can imagine would become the most thumbed section of the book. The chapters on Emacs are marvellously detailed. [..] I cannot recommend this book highly enough. (Refers to the 2nd english edition. See the full review here.)

SysAdmin, Jan. 2000, (Elizabeth Zinkann): excellent book and suberb reference
Kofler's enthusiasm about Linux is evident throughout the book and is also contagious. [..] He explains Linux concepts and procedures clearly and skillfully, noting what techniques may be more suited with certain configurations. Kofler also includes extensive information that is often neglected or overlooked. Linux: Installation, Configuration, and Use, Second Edition is an excellent book and a superb reference. (Refers to the 2nd english edition. See the full review here.)

PC Expert, 2000: clair et détaillé
L'auteur a pris soin de ne rien oublier pour fournir un ouvrage clair et détaillé - sans oublier de donner moult astuces et conseils. (Refers to the french edition.)

Linux+, 2000: nous le recommandons en priorité
De l'avis général, il s'agit de l'un des meilleurs ouvrages Linux disponibles en langue française. [...] Nous le recommandons en priorité. (Refers to the french edition.)

ERCB, Dec. 1999 (Jack Woehr): authenticity of an expert Linux exposition
The book successfully merges the authenticity of an expert Linux exposition with the tone of a mass-market operating system power user guide. Of broad appeal, it's especially a book that should be by the elbow of the intern installing Linux on the workstations of the impatient and ill-informed. (Refers to the 2nd english edition. See the full review here.)

Amazon.com, 1998 (Robert Frankland): Best of Operating Systems, 1998
While no one book will cover the entire operating system, none is better at installation and configuration than 'Linux: Installation, Configuration and Use'. (Refers to first english edition.)

Amazon.com, 1998 (David Wall): no-frills tutorial
This book is a beginner's guide for people who don't like heavily illustrated, highly flippant introductory guides. This serious book is almost all text and accomplishes (more satisfactorily) in 650 pages what other Linux books do in 1,000 pages or more. (Refers to first english edition. For details see here.)

Linux Journal 10/1998 (Michael Scott Shappe): extremely useful
Overall, I found this book extremely useful with a very positive attitude and a wide range of topics covered. As both a step-by-step guide and a reference, it is a good place for an aspiring Linux user to start. (Refers to first english edition. For details see here.)
